Theatre Renovation Update and Facts:

The Crest Movie Theatre was built in 1947 one-half
block off the historic Clinton Square.  It has been vacant
since March 2003.  Through the years, it was altered
from 1 screen theater to a 3 screen theater.  Heartland
Community Theatre received the old theater as a in kind
gift in August 2004.  The donor received NAP credit for
the gift.

Heartland was granted 70% NAP credits to renovate the
theater into a cultural arts center.  The facility will house
Heartland's own productions, offer space for small
groups to meet, and provide a setting for other cultural
arts to be performed and exhibited.

Our NAP grant began July 1, 2004, and will continue for
3 years - June 2007.  Our NAP budget is $500,000.
However, the total renovation budget is between
$900,000 and $1,100,000.

The Crest renovation committee is working with
Septagon of Sedalia, MO to do the design, architecture
and construction of the center.  They will also be adding
a building to the back of the theater to house dressing
rooms, set production, storage, etc.  Septagon's target
completion date is Spring 2008.

When completed, the new cultural arts center will seat
260 - 275.  The mezzanine or second floor will be
entirely separate from the auditorium and will be
available for rental.  It will be equipped with a
convenience kitchen.

As of December 31, 2006, we have received
$347,844.84 in cash, stocks, and in-kind donations
toward the NAP budget, leaving $151,839.16 to be
collected in the NAP program and over $500,000 in Non
NAP monies needed.

JULY 20, 2007
Now that our three years are up for raising money
through Neighbor Assistance Program (NAP). We are  at
a total of $409,184.20 plus $34,623.46 in NON-NAP,
making the total to date at $443,807.66. Starting this
late summer the add on to the back of the theatre and
pavilion.  The add on will connect the two buildings in the
back, allowing the cast, crew, and stage props to move
about or stored in the new area. The rest of the Crest
building will be completely enclosed. Protecting it from
the weather and other acts of nature.

Remolding has begun on the Crest Pavilion. The old
walls needed to be taken down for the masons. To see
if any tuck pointing needed to be done. In the front
portion of the pavilion, on the south wall, a map was
uncovered from underneath the plaster on the wall.

From the close up of the map you can see the towns.
For instance on the top left there is Blairstown, Big
Creek, and Norris. On the top right  picture  you can see
Shawnee. The bottom left picture has Hartwell and Urich.
The bottom right picture shows Windsor and part of
Calhoun. From Clinton on down the map is no longer
visible. If any one knows the history on this map, please
let us know. When was it painted and what was it used
for?

                                   August 2007
Work on the front to remove the old facade, before it fell
off. Heavy equipment was brought in to remove  the old
shed concrete floor, behind the former Samaritan Thrift
Shop. This particular floor was much higher than the
interior floors of both the theatre and pavilion. After the
dirt work is done the next step in putting in the footings.
For the new add on to the back of both buildings. This
will tie the back of each buildings together.
